And the rain came pouring down…
There’s something about the rain. Sometimes, when it rains, I’d rather stay at home. I’d rather sleep or read or just be lazy and keep myself dry indoors. However, there will always come a time when you’ll get caught in the rain just like what happened to me days ago.
I met Mr. Rain and instead of the gentle, friendly welcome, I was met with a fierce and raging response. It was raining cats and dogs when I got off the bus. Good thing, I brought my reliable umbrella and together we braced the heavy downpour.
As I was walking towards home, I realized that there were some who stopped for a while and waited for the rain to stop. But there were several who courageously walked under the dark stormy skies. As I reflect on what had transpired, I realized that in life, we’ll all face difficulties but the difference lies on one’s response. There will be people who’d stop. They won’t reach their destination because they’ve given up. They won’t attain their potential because they’ve been discouraged of their circumstances. Instead of going through the rain, they decide to stay where they are and wallow in self-pity.
On the other hand, there are the brave ones who step out and go through the rain. The cold weather, the raging thunder and lightning and rushing floods don’t threaten them because they know they’re protected by their umbrella or rain gear. Yes, there is a possibility of getting wet and sick but they still go on because they trust their umbrella. Similarly, problems may arise but they are not shaken because they trust God who is sovereign above all.
See, the difference lies in one’s response towards the rains.
The first group does nothing. The second group does something. The first group is paralyzed by fear of trials. The second group is fueled by faith in Christ. The first group reaches nothing. The second group gets somewhere better. The first group despises the rain. The second group dances in the rain. The first group sees their circumstances. The second group sees Christ.
May the rains remind us that there is no problem too big for God. He will go with us through the rain and with Him we can endure and be victorious. Let us also share Christ, our sturdy umbrella, to others and lead them to the hope, to God who’s always in control. 🙂
Now, to which group do you belong? 🙂
