“Let us learn to find delight even in the simplest tasks.”
This is what I told my friend the last time we chatted. He shared that he was not that challenged in what he does, that he’s bored and it seemed he’s not learning at all.
I was glad that I was able to share to him that quote by God’s grace (I have to preach this to myself everyday, too). I don’t know if it had a good effect on him, though (hope he was motivated to work excellently! hehe… 🙂 ) But I also experienced what my friend shared to me (been there, so nakaka-relate din ako sa kanya). My inner grumblings/complaints toward simple jobs only reveal the rottenness of my heart—how proud I am thinking I don’t need to do all those seemingly easy stuff. But God is really good He made me realize that there is joy in serving Him. Paul even wrote that “Whatever we do, we should work as if working for the Lord, not for men, for it is the Lord Christ we’re serving.” Notice the word—WHATEVER. It did not qualify the tasks that we think only glorifies God. Whatever may mean photocopying, printing, washing the dishes, doing the laundry, talking to a loved one, praying for someone…and the list goes on…
Even making sandwiches! Last time, I was asked by my dad to prepare sandwiches for our family. And I never thought I would enjoy that much! There is a pure and genuine delight that comes in serving God and serving other people. Helping really never goes out of style!
For God, what counts is not the nature of the assignment you’ve accomplish. For Him, what matters is the attitude of our hearts. He is more concerned with our being (character) rather than our doing.
